I remember the first time I heard about the power of one question…
I thought, “There’s no way. Just one question? That’s ridiculous.”
But then I began to consider it more carefully…
After all, how is it that we get stuck in a job we dislike, yet stick with it for years or even decades?
How do we get stuck following a script for our lives that isn’t satisfying and leaves us wanting more?
Well, I think I know the answer…
We get stuck because we think we’re doing what we “should” be doing. So we never stop to ask ourselves the questions that will lead us to a better place.
Just think about what happens when we go about our daily lives, not questioning, but just accepting that we have to, for example…
...pay a fortune for college, if you can
...get a “good” job
...”settle down” on schedule
...then wait 30-40 years to finally retire and enjoy life at 65 or 70.
Or maybe your script is to become a lawyer or dentist. Or a laborer. Or to take over the family business.
Or even to be a failure. To stay in your place. To be a dimly lit star and nothing more…
These are the scripts that we are handed. That is the path we aren’t supposed to question.
But what if you are made of something different? What if you are a unique individual? What if your uniqueness demands a different path?
For example…
What if you want financial freedom -- not a 9-5 job that holds you down?
What if you want to travel the world?
What if you want to make the world richer in a humanitarian way, not a boss richer in a financial way?
What if you want to slow down and enjoy life now instead of waiting until retirement decades down the road?
What if you truly believe you can do anything that you put your mind to -- even when others say you can’t?
What if you’re a star? A phenom? Or a once-in-a-generation talent?
What if you have so much talent bursting out of your veins that even those closest to you lack the talent to see it?
These questions are off-script.
We’re not supposed to ask them.
But I say that you must ask them unless you just want to be a cog in the machine.
To escape the bondage that traps countless souls in mediocrity, you must ask questions.
